301 North Campus Blvd.

Spartanburg, SC 29303

Time: 9:00am to 2:00pm (Door closes at 1:00pm)

The SFC Charles A. Judge Jr. Memorial Stand Down provides a day of FREE services and resources to homeless veterans, veterans at risk of homelessness, and any veteran in need (as defined by his/her need).

Every veteran is welcome to choose from a large variety of services, resources, items and goods that best meets his or her needs. Family members are welcome.

The SFC Charles A. Judge Memorial Stand Down is organized by a 35 member steering committee. This faithful team is comprised of a diverse array of representatives to include veterans, veteran service organizations, medical personnel, non-profit organizations, businesses, social service agencies, faith based organizations, and community partners and friends.

Collectively, this group works for approximately one year in planning and coordination before the Stand Down.

A primary goal of the Stand Down steering committee is to gather feedback from participating veterans and families. The steering committee is very focused on meeting projected outcomes and seeking ways to improve the program.

Some data indicators at previous SFC Charles Judge Stand Down events include:

  • Approximately 200 veterans and family members attended.
  • 100% of these attendees indicated Stand Down was a highly valuable experience.
  • 100% stated items and goods were helpful.
  • 99% stated an improved quality of life as a result of attending Stand Down.
  • 100% of participants stated they would participate in a future Stand Down.

Approximately 400 community volunteers assisted before, during and after in carrying out the many activities necessary to accomplish the mission of welcoming and serving our veterans and their families.

Approximately 45 agencies and organizations were present to provide information, resources and referrals specific to the needs of participants.

A vast number of funding sponsors and donors of items and goods ensured a special and bountiful experience for our veteran and their families.

The purpose and mission of the Stand Down is three-fold:

1. Connect veterans to targeted resources, information and service agencies to improve quality of life.

2. Provide opportunities and avenues for veterans to reintegrate into the community and society.

3. Display appreciation and gratitude for their military service in an atmosphere of dignity, respect, warmth and welcome.
